Having entered the double digits with a compilation of diverse rave gear, São Paulo’s Yellow Island are back with a taught batch of club cuts from Boulderhead. The Bristol producer delivers one of his best records yet, rounded off with remixes by Conna Haraway and Enxerto.
‘Expander‘ demonstrates that Boulderhead is equally competent splicing break-laden rollers as conjuring organ-fuelled nostalgia trips. However, the producer’s signature minimal funk on the A1 is perhaps the most captivating of the original tracks on the release.
Our pick is Conna Haraway’s reinterpretation of ‘Module Upgrade’. The INDEX:Records boss keeps the energy high on this version. Filled with blink-and-you-miss-it details, mangled breaks and mind-bending effects, it’s a cutting-edge transmission from the Glasgow-based artist.
