Premiere: Box5ive – Deli

Brussels-based Initiate Records is set to release ‘Dying Angel’, the latest release from London’s Box5ive. A producer who cut his teeth in London’s thriving dubstep, grime, and bass scenes, Box5ive came to our attention with a handful of stellar releases on Well Street followed by a stunning full-length on co:clear.

Box5ive’s last turn around the sun produced some brilliant sounds – ‘Grey Space’ was among our favourites of the year, and he contributed an excellent podcast to our ongoing IA MIX Series – 2025 is shaping up to be just as killer. Where ‘Grey Space’ fused strands of bass music with lush ambient, ‘Dying Angel’ veers further into liminal dreamscapes. It offers a sonic gateway to serene zones that envelope you in luxuriant synths.

Our pick is “Deli”, an inviting transmission of pillowy keys beamed in from the clouds. The ebb and flow of the main riff is presented in a delicate manner to maintain a tranquil aura. Box5ive’s origins in bass, grime, and dubstep scenes may feel light years away when you tune in to “Deli”, but the expert use of flickering moments of empty space and atmosphere are felt in the track and throughout ‘Dying Angel’.

‘Dying Angel’ is scheduled for release on 28th February via Initiate Records. Order a copy from Bandcamp.
