Following several releases from psych-punk Belgian trio Dans Dans, Flying Horseman and Black Dub’s singer Trixie Whitley, Ghent-based imprint Unday line up ‘SUPRA‘, courtesy of Belgian experimental maverick David Sanders – better known as Dijf Sanders.
After previous appearances on the alternative jazz imprint W.E.R.F and Smoking Crab Records, the producer has constantly been on the lookout for international melodies with ‘Puja‘ in Nepal or ‘Java‘ in Indonesia. Spanning over 9-tracks, ‘SUPRA‘ plunges the listeners into South Caucasian sonic landscapes, ancestral polyphony and ambient lullabies.
Our pick from the release is ‘Knight In Panther Skin’ thanks to its morphing arpeggios floating around saz riffs ushered by Georgian musician Nargile Mehtieva, traditional post-folk chants and tropes of space bird recordings. It’s a solid dose of avant-garde spirituality to pack with you on the pastoral peaks of Mount Kazbegi.
