Premiere: Dukwa – Who Cares

Transient Nature is a new imprint run by Wanderist, one half of Dutch duo Dam Swindle. In their Soundcloud bio, the label state their dedication to “the world of machine funk” and their inaugural release, an EP by Italian producer Dukwa, seems totally in line with this raison d’etre.

Back in 2017, Dukwa made a splash with an EP for Glasgow’s Numbers, the track ‘Thoughts (Feat. Mar G)’ proving to be a feel-good favourite with audiences. Unlike the housey tones of that release, ‘Think Potential’ shows the Florentine is also a competent producer when it comes to steely techno and electro.

That said, our pick from this EP is ‘Who Cares’, a sun-kissed outlier on what is otherwise an EP of tough machine jams. The track calls to mind Floating Points circa 2011, infectious Rhodes and shuffling drums in abundance. That’s certainly not a bad thing.

‘Think Potential’ is scheduled for release 22 April via Transient Nature. Order a copy from Bandcamp.
