Premiere: FaltyDL – Ill Bent

There’s always a bit of briskness before Spring really kicks into gear — a chill that brings some whimsy and wonder, gearing the faithful towards a warmer tomorrow. With today’s premiere, there’s all that and more, courtesy of New York’s chameleonic, supersonic adventurer, FaltyDL.

With a lengthy discography that spans labels including AUS Music, Hypercolour, Planet Mu, Swamp81 and more — it’s his own label, Blueberry Records, that has been heralding his most personal and precise material to date.

However ‘Ill Bent’ is a blast from the past. The title track itself is a 2011 cut that could’ve sliced up dancefloors worldwide; a resounding triumph of two-step bliss that FaltyDL is quite well-versed in. Between its excellent balance of percussive patterns, magnificent chord structure and vocal sample scintillation, there’s no chance the dancefloor isn’t the next destination for any listeners nearby.

The full release itself is actually a split EP, one part from the aforementioned FaltyDL and the other courtesy of dubstep innovator and UK garage icon Benny Ill. Yes, folks — when you hear shuffling percussion, it means Spring is gearing up proper.

‘Ill Bent’ is out now and is available for digital purchase, with physical copies to be released imminently. Order a copy from Boomkat.
