Following our recent line up news article about Kokong Festival, today we turn our attention to the festival’s inaugural sampler – a curated glimpse into the artists set to perform this weekend inside the iconic geodesic dome at Pub Stallhagen on Åland.
Spanning four tracks, the compilation brings together leading voices from the Nordic electronic music scene: FISK, the analog techno alias of Finnish producer and Elektron product specialist Daniel Troberg; the exploratory textures of Andreas Tilliander and jazz trumpeter Goran Kajfeš; the murky Baltic atmospheres of Havsmörker; and the pulsating club energy of Norwegian techno veteran Mental Overdrive.
Our pick from the sampler is the opening track ‘Ilväder‘ by Scandinavian duo Havsmörker. Comprising Anton Johansson and Axel Jonsson, the pair fuse field recordings, analogue synthesis, and traditional acoustic instrumentation into immersive folktronica and ambient works. Their sound conjures a sense of sensory navigation – foggy, spatial, and deeply intuitive.
Steeped in atmosphere, ‘Ilväder‘ is both murky and crystalline – a meditative piece that weaves mystical synth lines with effervescent percussion, blending natural elements like flute with earthy, ancient textures. The result is an experimental, downbeat track that gently leans toward the techno spectrum, while remaining rooted in introspection and place.
‘Kokong Festival Sampler Vol.1’ is scheduled for release on 1st August via KOKONG.
