‘Schatz’ is the inaugural release from Initiate Records. The Belgium-based record label kicks off proceedings with an EP from Hesh and Oliver Si. The pair are good friends and collaborators who describe the release as being rooted in their shared love for the dance floor, a common cause that results in a striking and varied release.
Spanning 7 tracks in total, ‘Schatz’ covers a lot of ground. With techno and dubstep sitting alongside ambient and high tempo excursions, there’s no fixed agenda here, allowing remixers and listeners alike to choose their own adventure. It’s almost certain that DJs of all stripes will find something here to their taste amongst this diverse batch of tracks.
Today, we’re premiering the title track from the release. Hypnotic and ominous, ‘Schatz’, which translates to treasure in German, hurtles along at a breakneck pace without giving in to reckless abandon. Although the track is filled with eerie atmospherics, this one is all about the drums.
