Following notable releases from Italian producers duo The Analogue Cops, Planet E Communications affiliate Eduardo De La Calle and legendary Italo disco producer DJ Rocca, Berlin-based imprint Memento Records delivers the short-length release ‘Lunatic 2‘, courtesy of Algeria-born producer Idriss D.
Stepping up with two stratospheric tracks, Idriss D sails us away from our psychotic reality with fleet-foot drum & bass rhythms, submarine frequencies and contralto vocals. Listeners are immersed in a Nautilus-like outfit filled with hi-fi sea nymph chants as they navigate the troubled waters. Ahead of that comes a mesmerizing remix produced by iconic Versatile’s founder Gilb’R.
Our pick from the release is Gilb’R’s version of ‘Lunatic 2‘ – thanks to his dubbed-out lullaby enhanced with drops of candid sentimentality, silky basslines, reverberating snares and sedative vocals. It is safe to say that Gilb’R’s remains a significant pillar of Paris nightlife after more than thirty years in the game.
