Following their ‘BOUNCE BRKS’ EP release in October 2023 under the alias Big J, Baltimore-based platform jjjjjj returns with the eleven-track ‘家 (jiā)‘ LP – courtesy of multi-disciplinary producer Jialing.
Frontrunner of the contemporary Baltimore club scene with a residency on South London radio station Balamii and a recent collaboration with Miss Jay, ‘家 (jiā)‘ explores their Taiwanese ancestry with a feverish club-centered twist. The eleven tracks weave a mesmerizing labyrinth of Baltimore Club, furious drum & bass, mind-warping breaks, experimental drone and soul-stirring Formosan samples.
Our pick for the premiere is ‘生存 (existence)‘ – a relentless incantation of thunderous breaks enlivened by detailed hi-hat arrangements, shamanic mantras and distant bamboo flutes interspersed with a tearful dose of piano homesickness.
