Premiere: Jonnnah – Consume Me

French producer Pierre Paumier closes out the year with a new LP from his Jonnnah project. After the release of ‘Me, With You’ in May on Glasgow’s co:clear, ‘What They Left’ arrives this month on Paumier’s Second End Records. The imprint, founded in 2024, focuses on his Jonnnah productions as well as like-minded producers blurring the lines between dub techno, bass, and ambient.

The Lyon-based project revels in amniotic dub, slowed down breakbeat, and exploratory drum and bass. The new album was “designed as much for solitary listening as for collective experience”, and it’s easy to get lost in the beautiful ambient passages while being brought back by Jonnnah’s uplifting techno tracks. At times both melancholy and euphoric, ‘What They Left’ is perfect to hunker down with across the cold, grey winter months ahead.

“Consume Me” is one of the many highlights on ‘What They Left’. Kicking off in a misty dub techno environment, Jonnnah breaks from the clouds for an understated downtempo groove. The album carries with it a subdued trip-hop feel that’s welcoming yet retains an appealing mystery. “Consume Me” feels like the interlude during an open ended Mist-type game. The destination feels less important than exploring the blank spots on the map.

‘What They Left’ is scheduled for release on 12th December via Second End Records. Buy vinyl from Inverted Audio Record Store and digital from Bandcamp.
