Premiere: Long Island Sound – Wind & Rain

Irish DJ and production duo Long Island Sound – from Dublin, interestingly, not New York – prepare their five track ‘First Contact‘ EP via London-label Remmah.

Spanning five tracks the pair weave a tale across genre and style, traversing house, techno, disco and breakbeats, and utilising a broad stretch of musical techniques to hit their target. From clear ambient elements to driving acid and hammering bass, the EP brings plenty of variety to the plate.

Our pick of the pack is the final track, ‘Wind & Rain‘, a laidback piece based on the purity of simplicity — a good beat, breaky yet not intrusive, a piano synth melody that balanced between repetition and modulation, and some nice ambient background sounds, replete with flickers of whimsical vocal samples. A good reminder that new music doesn’t have to break world records for inventive sound design or futuristic production techniques to be valued.

‘First Contact’ is scheduled for release 28 January via Remmah. Order a copy from Bandcamp.
