As sound design goes, you can’t fault the kind of close attention to detail exhibited by Italian producer Neel. Not content with perfecting ambient techno in partnership with Donato Dozzy as Voices of the Lake, Neel maintains a busy mastering schedule via his Rome based Enisslab Studio through which music from Marco Shuttle, Varg, Abdulla Rashim and Dorisburg has been processed.
Equally as industrious as a solo artist his work includes ambient opus ‘Phobos‘ and clinical cycling techno via “Spazio Disponibile” – a label set up with Dozzy. The home for Neel’s latest release is quality techno imprint Token where we find things deep in the dance – a place where Millsian loops hynoptise and perfectly weighted kicks underpin driving hats and glistening atmospherics.
Our pick of the bunch is “Bassiani” – a homage to the meticulously programmed Georgian club and a masterclass in peak time dance floor energy and which exact point to briefly drop in those ride cymbals (in this case at 2.44 and 4.28 – yes, we’re taking notes).
