After breaking through on an international scale last year, Dutch DJ and producer Perdu clocks in on Detroit Swindle’s Heist Recordings with the anticipated follow-up to his exquisite debut solo effort, ‘Mystical Choices‘, issued a few months ago on Jacques Renault and Nik Mercer’s NY-based imprint, Let’s Play House.
You guessed it, did you – ‘Skye‘ EP is a straight out funky, summer-flavoured affair, custom-cut for the festival season and equipped for endless nights of dancing on the beach and rooftops. Yet, aside from stacking up maximal levels of floor energy, Perdu’s music here blooms in all its diversity and textural wealth, offering multiple ports of entry into his subtly nuanced, all round captivating sound universe.
Lifted from the record, our pick ‘Sacramento‘ blazes with a soulful old-school vibe straight outta Chicago’s house heyday, tinged with a soupçon of ’90s-rave-nurtured propulsive breaks and batteries of finely inlaid afro-disco polyrhythms. Sensuous gospel-ish choirs blend in with bouncy sub-bass and sun-beaten kalimba notes to put on the kind of luscious display of floor temptation one can not but give in to. Supremely enticing, the perfect combo of function and finesse.
Skye EP is released via Heist Recordings on May 3rd, pre-order a copy from Juno.
