Premiere: Permutation – Manifold

After meeting in the mid-2010s through music hardware events, it wasn’t long before Dmitry and Edgar of Barcelona duo Permutation began to work together in the studio. Through these studio sessions, they began to develop and hone in on their sound, resulting in the release of ‘Many Worlds’ EP in 2019, marking the first release on their eponymous imprint.

The production duos sound spans techno, electro via 90’s IDM and electronica. All of this is executed with incredible technical finesse, which perhaps should come as no surprise given the artist’s backgrounds in music technology and industrial robotics.

There’s no lack of emotive capability on the duo’s next release named ‘Epicycles’. The silky Detroit pads of ‘Manifold’ have a real warmth to them in particular. There are historical influences aplenty, but also a hopeful glance towards the future.

‘Epicycles’ is scheduled for release 3 June via Permutation. Order a copy.
