Coming out of Naarm-based label Kinetic Vision and rooted in slow-burn experimentation and ritualistic sound design, Temporal Loop Transcendance marks the second chapter in POD & Edward Richards’ ongoing collaboration. Together, the pair explore that space between world music, bass pressure and psychedelic techno, inviting Pugilist into the fold as a natural extension of that ethos: an artist whose work consistently balances dubwise weight, tribal rhythm and club-ready hypnosis.
Pugilist’s “Temporal Loop Transcendance (Pugi’s Mariana Mix)” drags POD & Edward Richards’ hallucinatory original deep into subterranean club territory without losing its ceremonial pulse. Centring around what feels like some sort of unhinged didgeridoo, the track uncoils slowly, stuttering rhythms snapping into place as fractured two-steps through the muggy dark. Distant, yearning vocals hover at the edges of auditory perception, howling through layers of distortion as if screaming into the spiralling void.
As the mix progresses, a dark, patient melody seems to surface, carried along by waves of tribal drum patterns and frantic, breathless vocal shards. Pugilist preserves the track’s shamanic intensity while sharpening its physical impact, grounding the psychedelic sprawl in weighty low-end and hypnotic repetition. This release adds to the growing catalogue, epitomised by OK EG, of deep, richly textural techno coming out of Melbourne.
‘Temporal Loop Transcendance’ releases on Kinetic Vision on 27 February. Check out their Bandcamp.
