Next up on Berlin-based imprint Gelly is a very special house release – a three track 12-inch courtesy of REYF, one of the more undisclosed production aliases from German producer Benedikt Frey.
There’s no questioning that over the years Benedikt Frey has kept a firm hold on the electronic music spectrum; consistently venturing out of the classic 4/4 apparatus to strike different directions, breathing new life into his raw yet chiselled compositions.
He now steps up to unleash ‘Wintermute‘ consisting of tracks picked from a bunch of unreleased works, produced between 2009-2010 under his (Venedikt) Reyf. Mastered by VRIL and presented with lucid artwork by visual artist yuun.lattice, Wintermute is an impeccably produced release, best suited to those that appreciate the output of Levon Vincent, Vester Koza and DJ Jus-Ed.
Our pick is ‘Side Lift‘ – harnessing a drum beat akin to Levon Vincent’s iconic ‘Late Night Jam‘ – Frey increases the intensity by injecting an acidic bass synth with side-winder melodies – resulting in a deeply textural track of jacking house.
‘Wintermute’ is scheduled for release on 2 June via Gelly. Order a copy from Bandcamp.
