Premiere: Ryan James Ford – Ketamax-50 (LGL76)

After appearing on Mama Told Ya’s excellent first compilation, ‘L’eau repousse les feux agressifs‘, Ryan James Ford returns to Anetha’s label for a 5-track EP dubbed ‘Rules are meant to be broken‘, featuring one collaboration track with Anetha, as standard for the label.

As with other MTY releases, ‘Rules are meant to be broken‘ confidently sits at the fore of the modern techno/rave sound — not just for the music, which mixes no-nonsense techno and elevating trance, but also for the flashy, liquid visuals (from designer Kitasavi) decorating the vinyl and tee shirt physical editions of the release.

Regulars to the label’s space in dance music will find much of what they come looking for from Mama Told Ya on our premiere, ‘Ketamax-50 (LGL76)‘ — while a 4/4 beat crunches on throughout the track, Ford has already stated his opinions on rules with the EP title, and, after building enough pressure, releases the pent-up energy through a contrastingly airy and nimble synth line. Wired yet not all-out, restrained but far from sedate, this track fits perfectly with the MTY catalogue to date, a dancefloor stomper that is far from 2-dimensional.

Rules are meant to be broken’ is scheduled for release 25 February via Mama Told Ya. Order a copy from Bandcamp
