With over ninety releases of India’s most prominent electronic protagonist, Goa-based collective Qilla Records line up ‘Samurai‘ EP by New Delhi label affiliate SHFT, previously releasing records on Parquet Records and Köln-based imprint Traum Schallplatten.

Spread over 4 tracks, ‘Samurai‘ is a multiplex structured extended player that is not for the faint-hearted. Exploring alternating shades of rhythmic strains and crystalline harmonies, SHFT eschews club tendencies for mind-expansive audio freaks, spanning third-eye-opening ambient with ‘Samurai‘, body catalepsy with ‘Quantum Forest‘, fuzzy slow-burners with ‘Derelict‘, and full-moon techno grooves with ‘Pyro‘.

Our pick is ‘Quantum Forest‘ thanks to its magnetic flecks of spaced-out FX sounds, psychedelic trance rhapsody intertwined with a meditative bassline and a proper fast-paced thump. The pristine seashore of Goa might quickly draw you in with mythical sea-dwellers shuffling around as your body gets too sluggish.
