Premiere: Synalegg – Computer Series 14

French experimental sound project Synalegg returns to OOH-sounds with the second and final instalment of his inventive generative project ‘Computer Music’. Following the first edition’s SD card, this final edition arrives on a beautifully designed limited cassette.

Developed within Pure Data, Synalegg’s system functions as an autonomous compositional environment – a self-running patch capable of generating its own sonic worlds. Each activation produces an unpredictable and immersive sound environment, its structural complexity reflecting the deep logic of the algorithm itself. Once initiated, the computer takes over entirely, combining and permuting data across sequences, sound engines, and processing chains with no human intervention beyond editing and mastering.

The project’s concept lies in a deliberate attempt to subvert the tyranny of the composer – to free music from the influence of individual taste and deliberate choice. In doing so, Synalegg shifts the artist’s role to that of an “aesthetician responsible for his algorithm,” constructing the framework and letting the system express itself.

‘Computer Series / Last Run’ shares DNA with Autechre’s algorithmic architectures, Jimmy Edgar’s exploratory Michaux material ‘%20‘ (2003), and the mechanical precision of Aphex Twin’s ‘Computer Controlled Acoustic Instruments Pt2. Yet Synalegg’s approach pushes even further into abstraction – where shattered digital gestures, haunted resonances, and fleeting melodic traces emerge organically from within the machine’s internal logic.

Across ten tracks, the computer’s improvisations unfold with abstract grace: fractured patterns, fragile textures, and moments of surprising beauty rising from pure code. These pieces feel neither human nor machine, existing instead in a third space where generative processes collide with faint traces of human imprint – playful, unpredictable, and alive.

‘Computer Series / Last Run’ is scheduled for release 24th October via OOH-sounds. Order a copy from Bandcamp.
