Premiere: Toke – Ori

Basic Contact’ is the latest offering from Bristolian imprint Mint Tea. On this solid four-tracker, half of the tracks are locally sourced, while the others come from further afield, Estonia and Georgia to be precise.

Scouring the current landscape of high-tech hybridism, label head Henry James (aka Boulderhead) returns with 3 standout cuts to present alongside his own handiwork. It’s all club-focused gear and, arguably, the label’s finest dispatch to date.

Our pick is ‘Ori’ by Toke. The Tbilisi-based DJ and producer, an affiliate of French label D.Ko Records, demonstrates his expertise in crafting eye-closed late-night fare. The bassline is one of the first things that really grabs you as a listener, nestled within the track’s atmospheric scene-setting. One is struck by Toke’s ability to balance a diverse array of elements, melding a cohesive and nuanced whole.

‘Basic Contact’ is scheduled for release 30 April via Mint Tea. Order a copy from Bandcamp.
