From the low-lit basements of London to the overcast grooves of the Baltic, Berlin via London imprint Laib Und Seele deliver their second collective outing ‘Multigrain Compilation II‘
Across six tracks, LUS doubles down on its curatorial instinct for raw textures, club-forward deconstructions and meditative dancefloor fodder. Neither strictly functional nor wholly experimental, this collection sits comfortably in the fertile middle ground.
Yesjar injects the compilation with his signature tripped-out techno on ‘Abwartz‘, a rhythmic hypnosis of shifting pulses and modular micro-accents. Gymnasty’s ‘Electro Boogie‘ provides a robotic detour into acid-inflected electro-funk, while Hindwood’s ‘You Are Not Your Mind‘ simmers in a late-night bath of trancey pads and mystical house echoes.
Cassine unleashes a glitch-heavy, peak-time steamer that borders on EBM chaos, while Alejandro Naranjo closes with a cheeky garage roller that fuses broken beats with dubby basslines and fragmented percussive nostalgia. Together, it’s a tight cross-section of heads-down club gear.
Our pick, Yoshida’s ‘Debno‘, opens the compilation with a haunting kind of grace. Hovering somewhere between UK braindance and ambient breaks, it unfolds like a thick mist rolling over a rusted industrial panorama. Pads hum like distant machines stirring to life, while the drum programming shifts delicately between off-kilter and hypnotic, steadily building toward a finely woven crescendo. It’s a track that doesn’t rush to get anywhere, it pulses with quiet intent, leaving space for breath and everything in between.
‘Multigrain Compilation II‘ is scheduled for release 30th May via Laib Und Seele. Order a copy from Bandcamp.
