Just like its namesake, summer is peak Peach season. With the sun out, temperatures rising, and the speakers out and ready to blast, the London by way of Canada producer Serena Pasion cooks up dazzling displays of deep house, trance, and effervescent rave. Her productions are tailor made for the outdoor dancefloors brimming with sun-seasoned energy ready to pop and lock into a groove. Through her Psychic Readings label, Peach maintains an outlet to refine her sounds that are presented as sleek as they are ever shifting across the wide spectrum of electronica.
Pairing up with stalwart British Columbia imprint Mood Hut for her latest mini-LP, ‘Soak Vol. 1’, the release sees Peach dabble in dancefloor adjacent sounds occasionally better suited for morning headphone walks rather than pre-dawn raves. Written after a tour through Asia that inspired changes to her songwriting process, which saw “shifts in energy to guide tempo, density, and emotional tone rather than strictly answering to the floor.” The five tracks exude a relaxed groove carefully considered and constructed, in order to ease you in while offering plenty of sonic hooks for your ears to perk up throughout every listen.
The best of the bunch is “Rainy Season”, a downtempo zoner with murky synths dredging through muddy tones and processed new age flutes on top of watery field recordings. Being based in a region of the world that sees its fair share of precipitation through the year, I can attest that Peach puts you right in the space of being stuck inside, staring at an ecologically necessary yet personally isolating weather pattern.
