Rinse FM has aired the second instalment of Counter Culture, recorded live from Inverted Audio Record Store in Peckham, with a two-hour session curated by DJ Antepop.
Broadcast last Saturday, the show continues the station’s collaboration with independent record shops, placing Inverted Audio at the centre of a wider conversation around vinyl culture, curation and community.
Hosted by Inverted Audio founder Tom Durston, the second episode deepens the format introduced in January – a focused, in-store broadcast built entirely from records available on the shelves. The result is a fluid snapshot of the shop’s current identity, moving through dub techno, ambient, minimal and leftfield club music without losing coherence.
Opening with the weightless pulse of Dettinger on Kompakt, the session gradually expands into more abstract territory via Jan Jelinek and Huerco S., before settling into a mid-section of textural dub and immersive electronics from Deepchord, Gradient and Flørist. The final stretch leans into dancefloor energy, with cuts from Quelza, Head High and Rising Sun, closing on Orbital’s enduring ‘Belfast’.
Rather than presenting a linear mix, the show functions as a guided listen – each track selected not only for its sonic qualities, but for its place within a wider ecosystem of labels, reissues and contemporary underground movements. It’s a format that reflects the ethos of the store itself: informed, tactile and rooted in discovery.
Crucially, every record featured in the broadcast is available to purchase in-store, reinforcing the connection between radio and physical space. Listeners are able to trace what they hear directly back to the racks in Peckham – a simple but effective bridge between broadcast and retail.
The Counter Culture series also highlights the growing role of record shops as cultural broadcasters in their own right. In an era where discovery is increasingly algorithm-driven, initiatives like this reintroduce human selection and context into the listening experience.
With a third and final broadcast scheduled for May, the collaboration continues to position Inverted Audio Record Store as both a retail space and a platform for deeper engagement with electronic music culture – locally grounded, but internationally relevant.
