Scissor & Thread returns two of the deepest, most devastating house records of the last fifteen years to vinyl, newly remastered and available to pre-order now.
You Can Always Leave (Curtains) and Companion have been out of circulation since their original vinyl-only pressings in 2013 and 2014 – a decade of Discogs prices soaring steadily as the records aged out of reach for anyone who missed them first time round. This limited edition reissue closes that gap, and does so properly: remastered by DJ Sprinkles herself.
The A-side is Sprinkles’ remix of Francis Harris’s You Can Always Leave (Curtains), built around Danish vocalist Gry Bagøien and Greg Paulus on trumpet. It first surfaced as a standalone single in 2013, a year ahead of the original version’s appearance on Harris’s album Minutes Of Sleep. Sprinkles’ rework strips it back into something slower and more spacious – the kind of remix that reveals as much restraint as skill.
The flip is where the record earns its reputation. Companion, from Frank & Tony with DJ Sprinkles, is deeper than deep – low on intensity, high on emotion, unfolding over its runtime with barely a raised pulse. A Michael Watford Holdin’ On sample sits buried deep in the mix, audible only to those paying proper attention. Two of the genre’s most understated auteurs meeting on one track, doing what they each do best, is not something that needs embellishing. Both tracks have circulated for years as records DJs quietly hold onto rather than talk about – this reissue puts them back within reach.
SATLTD008 is scheduled for release on 14th August via Scissor and Thread. Buy vinyl from Inverted Audio Record Store.
