Spaces is a new feature series in which we visit the clubs, record shops and cultural spaces that are making waves in our scene.
Between 15 March – 14 April 2019, Will Bankhead’s esoteric but much beloved London based imprint The Trilogy Tapes opened up a stateside month long pop-up shop in New York City.
The space was located at 307 Canal Street, nestled directly behind the Palace store in Lower Manhattan and easily visible thanks to the iconic TTT logo pasted across the front window.
TTT NYC was stocked with a healthy selection of records including a few older hard to find titles. There were also three limited edition Palace x TTT collaboration skateboard decks as well as a recent batch of shirts including two printed exclusively for the NYC store by local legends LQQK Studio.
Upon entering the store visitors were immediately confronted with the impressive speakers provided by subBASS Sound System, custom built and installed by none other than Trilogy Tapes artist Marshallito. You may also recognise TTT employee of the month J. Albert hard at work either tending the cash register and mixing up records.
During business hours things were kept at a relatively low volume, but on Friday evenings the TTT Store turned up the heat, hosting in-store parties featuring DJ sets by local friends of the label.
DJ Fire and DJ Healthy kicked things off with a nice three hour back-to-back session during the opening party and some other Trilogy affiliates took turns on the turntables.
