In February, Illegal Data, the label run by NE$$ and Harry Wright (Giant Swan, Mun Sing), released their second compilation. Compared to their first V/A, the second had more of a focus on songwriting than standard club sounds. According to Harry, the more melancholy mood was perhaps also reflective of the times.
One of the tracks came from Copenhagen’s Ridler. The artist formerly known as Becoming Real has supported acts including SALEM and Grimes as well as working with Trim of Roll Deep. The psychedelic distortion of ‘Rural Hood Pass’ might be seen as a conflation of these diverse musical experiences.
We’re excited to premiere the video for ‘Rural Hood Pass’, intended as a hallucinatory interpretation of a typical drill video, but one that takes place on another planet. Replete with stroboscopic effects and quick cuts, it’s a perfect match for the track’s high-energy hybridism that sounds like nothing you’ve ever heard.
‘Illegal Data Compilation #2’ is out now via Illegal Data. Order a copy from Bandcamp.
