Following up his debut album ‘Darts & Kites‘, Tunisian-born now Düsseldorf-based producer Taroug returns with a new audio-visual work, “Cicada” – offering the first glimmer into his forthcoming second album ‘Chott‘, due early next year on Denovali Records.
Built from field recordings gathered in Thailand’s Khao Sok National Park, the track slows the droning chorus of cicadas into a resonant hum, offset by percussive textures struck from brittle stalactites. Taroug’s own voice, fragmented and processed to echo insect cadences, threads through the composition, turning organic material into rhythm and structure. The result is a piece that feels deeply emotive and hypnotic.
The music video, created in collaboration with architect and designer Marie Brosius, extends the music into the visual realm. Composed from thousands of close up images of insects and satellite imagery, the video is a rapid-fire juxtaposition of natural forms and manmade landscapes, increasing the tension of the track.
Cicada is out today via Denovali records. Listen here.
