With every new dispatch from German producer Benedikt Frey you know you’re about to taste, experience, and finally get a proper feel of what seriously lacks in most modern techno music. Working in the gap between the genre’s codified nooks and yet-to-be-conquered expanses, Frey once again delivers with this new ‘Out Of The Fog‘ instalment for his Lopasura imprint.
"Known for championing the lo-fi aesthetic via slick FX-drowned visual pieces for some of the dust-and-hiss scene's hottest producers."
An arpeggiated line of lysergic bass rumbles craze the arcane varnish of the title-track, crawling along like a fantasised snake, vibrant strings eventually taking it off its earthy mulch to further abstract territories; ‘Wolves‘ follows a different trail with its pack of didgeridoo-y modulations taking the helm for a tireless ride that vacuums everything up in its path.
Closing the EP is ‘Lights‘ – quite the highlight of this new outing, reviving a malevolent hardware golem all set to shake the foundations of warehouse-size venues with its stomping rhythm and resounding siren, enslaving dancers into an occult ritual ceremony for its own deadly hedonistic pleasure.
"Moskalus frames 'Lights' into a murky superimposition of chopped-and-screwed B-grade horror movie sequences gone shapeless."
Known for championing the lo-fi aesthetic via slick FX-drowned visual pieces for some of the dust-and-hiss scene’s hottest producers, Moskalus frames ‘Lights‘ into a murky superimposition of chopped-and-screwed B-grade horror movie sequences gone shapeless. The reversed nightmarish imagery is reduced to its terrifying essence, boiling down to a barebones unknown threat that, if anything, couldn’t get any more frightening.
