Matthew Herbert’s record label Accidental unveil third volume of Antechamber Music

Following previous editions in 2021 and 2022, Matthew Herbert’s record label Accidental gear up to release the third volume of Antechamber Music, presenting a various artist cassette compilation probing at the intersection between avant-garde, neo-classical and electronic experimental music.

For the occasion, Accidental enlist an array of artist from across the globe to submit their most innovative methods of working with sound. A recurring theme is one of location and environment. In the case of Florence-born Drum & Lace, the live recording of her piece ‘Nel Parco‘ matches introspective, improvised melodic ambience with tactile field recordings of water hydrants, footsteps and people playing in a Los Angeles park on a hot summer’s evening.

Our pick from the compilation is ‘Nuremberg‘ by American electroacoustic producer George Hurd thanks to his deft use of sustained piano combined with warm atmospheric ambient, resulting in an emotive composition that provides space for pensive and introspective moments.

‘Antechamber Music 3’ is scheduled for release on 9th August via Accidental. Order a cassette copy from Bandcamp.
