The latest episode of our sister mix series Newtype Rhythms comes cased with a multitude of tempos courtesy of UK bass stalwart Breaka; a London-based dignitary whose kept their sound churning throughout times where we needed to hear it most.
Making waves in 2018 on Desert Sound Colony’s Holding Hands imprint, Breaka tapped into the rich history of UK club sonics and took it to task by starting up his own Breaka imprint, self-releasing impeccably strong cuts that inject an intensity that has been long missing from the dancefloor both figuratively and physically speaking.
On his latest release [Breaka003], the collaborations come heavy, courtesy of frequent collaborator Frazer Ray as well as his very own brother Bakey – both contributing excellent bits to a release that utilizes Breaka’s lively sound between the worlds of UK funky, garage and jungle with apt juxtaposition.
That care and consideration is also present within this week’s guest mix for Newtype Rhythms – as Breaka explores the many spaces of adjacent genres and tempos in an hour-plus journey that will leave chuffed and ready for more once its over. That part of the show starts 42 minutes in, with resident Sheepshead warming things up per usual.
