The latest episode of our sister mix series features a wondrous welcoming of Düsseldorf’s favourite son to the Newtype Rhythms pantheon – none other than Bufiman, a maestro of playful and rhythmically adventurous dancefloor patterns, graces us with his presence.
Bufiman is no stranger to the world of electronic music. With a multi-decade discography that boasts appearances on several notable labels like Dekmantel, Safe Trip, and Versatile, Jan Schulte has firmly established himself as a sonic explorer with an uncanny ability to push boundaries. During lockdown, that’s exactly what took place; his latest release for Cómeme, entitled ‘SWITCH BEATS‘ – emerged as a remarkable outcome of Bufiman’s pandemic-induced shift in approach.
Forced to halt his usual work in the wake of dance event bans, he turned to a night shift caretaker job, spending long hours commuting on a bus where he rediscovered his affinity for the Korg Gadget music program on his Nintendo Switch console, ultimately crafting this unique EP during this unconventional period of creativity. What resulted was a five-tracker that features what can only be referred to as “B- Boy” rhythms, outer-space fantasy and dance floor utopias that await any keen listener.
With that energy in tow, Bufiman contributes that same craft and focus into his guest mix, which starts at 43 minutes. As per usual, resident Sheepshead will be warming things up, setting the stage for the journey that is about to unfold.
