Bristol producer Henry Murray returns to Scissor and Thread as fka boursin with From Space Between – his second release for the label following his 2025 debut Listless Intertext, available to pre-order now at Inverted Audio Record Store.
Where Listless Intertext established Murray’s affinity for the spacious, dub-inflected edges of house music, From Space Between pushes that sensibility further inward. Murray describes the track plainly: “a half-successful attempt at working with fewer elements in pursuit of a more minimalist approach – trying to find restraint and sit with gaps in the stereo image where previously I would have reflexively filled them with melodic content.”
Recorded while living alone in another country for a month, the music emerged from meditations on displacement – unfamiliar places, seasons, languages, relationships, spaces. The track unfolds patiently, sounds appearing at the edges and gradually moving into focus, every deliberate absence doing as much work as what remains.
On the B-side, Frank & Tony return with another Housebeat Dub – Francis Harris and Anthony Collins picking up the thread of their Listless Intertext rework and drawing the original further into their own deep house language, giving the rhythm more room and letting the dub elements stretch across the arrangement.
