Brainfeeder line up reissue of Flying Lotus’ debut album 1983 for Record Store Day

Brainfeeder is reissuing Flying Lotus’ debut album 1983 on limited edition gold splatter vinyl as part of Record Store Day 2026 – and Inverted Audio Record Store in Peckham will have copies available in store on the day.

Originally released in 2006 on Plug Research – the American West Coast label home to underground experimental electronica artists including Low Res, Mannequin Lung and Daedelus – 1983 captures the earliest transmissions from Steven Ellison, a raw and inventive snapshot of an artist on the cusp of redefining electronic music. The album was initially a CD-only release, before receiving its first vinyl pressing in 2011 as a limited edition grey smoke LP.

Recorded in his grandmother’s bedroom, 1983 blends hip-hop, IDM and jazz with a loose, exploratory feel, drawing on the influence of J Dilla, Brazilian rhythms and future-facing beat culture. The result is a hazy, sample-rich journey that laid the foundation for later classics like Cosmogramma and You’re Dead!.

Now remastered and pressed on gold splatter vinyl, this new Brainfeeder reissue gives the record the physical presence it has long deserved – and for those who missed the 2011 grey smoke pressing, it’s the most accessible the album has ever been on wax. A vital piece of Flying Lotus’ discogrpahy.

Copies are available from Inverted Audio Record Store, Peckham.
