Five months on from Eeeeeeee, Denmark-based producer Natal Zaks returns as Picture with a second double 12″ on Sheffield’s Short Span. Where the predecessor established the blueprint, Uuuuuuuu confirms it — seven extended pieces of deep, dubbed-out abstract techno that balance unease and immersion with the same patient, unhurried language that made the first record worth returning to.
Short Span, founded by Matthew Kent, has carved out a distinct position since launching: long-form, dubbed-out and ambient-inflected material at the deeper end of the dub techno spectrum, where space and pressure matter as much as movement. Uuuuuuuu sits squarely within that vision.
Zaks moves through the seven tracks — Quuuuuu, Ruuuuu, Miiiiiii, Leeeeeee, Peeeeeee, Ziiiiiiiii and Wooooooo — with low-end weight and slowly shifting texture as the primary tools, the record’s logic emerging through accumulation rather than event. The physical package matches the music’s care: full sleeve, metallic silver inners and silver centres, mastered by Mike Grinser at Manmade with artwork by Mammo. A steady, considered follow-up that deepens a project already worth following.
Uuuuuuuu is scheduled for release on 13th July via Short Span. Pre-order vinyl from Inverted Audio Record Store.
