Australian imprint Altered States Tapes are a no-nonsense type of operation. While the name will be familiar to those who’ve had their ears to the antipodean underground, the label seem to have ignored today’s social media obligations, instead focussing on releasing innovative music from at home and abroad.
Their extensive discography is a testament to the passion behind the project, a healthy DIY spirit serving as a common thread throughout their eclectic catalogue. Recent highlights include the hypnotising psychedelia of Troth and Rings Around Saturn’s industrial and post-punk musings under his 2200 alias.
Information is scant regarding the mysterious 1too. What we do know is that the artist is a Sydneysider who, under a different alias, is known for releasing more clearly club-oriented stuff. ‘Don’t You’ on the other hand, is a breezy dub abstraction that sounds like it’s come straight from the garden shed.
‘Untitled’ is out now via Altered States Tapes. Order a copy from Bandcamp.
