Following appearances on Brussels’ Slagwerk, Angoisse and Sacred Phrases, Kota Watanabe is about to enter a new cycle in his young, yet much promising career. Under the sepulchral alias of Cemetery the Tokyo-based producer keeps pushing boundaries and quashing received wisdom about traditional Japanese culture, leading-edge music and the gaping hole in between, which he came to call home.
Fresh off an arresting new EP for Los Angeles imprint TAR, Cemetery pulls out the landing gear again, this time with a further ambitious triptych for Parisian outlet, Mind Records. Lifted from the first volume, ‘Hyper+Land‘, our premiere ‘Slakker‘ is an hybridized, post-industrial genre-crusher of the finest ilk. Hellishly murky by nature but punctuated with flares of light and hope throughout, this is a macabre ballet we’re invited to take part in, Maenads laments, frizzling electronics and martial percussions making for its overpowering attributes of seduction.
