Premiere: Cleveland – Kobu

Not one to weigh up notions like the most suitable Juno category for his music (try leftfield deep-house) or what shelf his new record will be stored in, Brussels-based producer Andrea Mancini alias Cleveland fancies swimming against the tide, and his latest for Spanish outlet Hivern Discs – ‘nDSi‘ – does indeed take us far away from the boring techno highway and main genre alleys, easing us into a world of playful electronics, bright textures and constantly changing harmonics.

Lifted from this double-package of shape-shifting futuristic grooves imported from some hi-tech parallel dimension, our pick ‘Kobu‘ makes for a riveting playground of sorts. Mischievous bleepy whorls and sonar-like sounds ring and echo through an endless game of glassy facets and polished synthetic prisms, a pizzicato bass loosing acute jazz-imbued arrows amidst this bouncy concert of circuit talk while the drums beat a rather nervy lilt. Next-level funk in full effect.

nDSi is released via Hivern Discs on May 10th, pre-order a copy from the label’s webshop.
