French record label RDV (Récit de Voyage) prepare to release a vinyl-only reissue of three tracks from Parisian producer Continental, with the 12-inch topped with a sharp modern refix from Cosmin TRG.
The original productions all hearken back to Continental’s musical creations from the 90’s, and are filled with the buoyant creativity of the era: deep, dubby cuts that sit on the fringes of house and techno, originally out on Alliance Records.
Cosmin TRG’s remix completes the package, adding a nicely skewed version of the title track, ‘Whispers‘. The Berlin-based producer intelligently dissects the source material’s warm, elevating atmospherics, simultaneously shifting down several gears as he cranks the music into the realm of stomping mechanic dub.
Sophisticated and restrained, Cosmin TRG’s refraction of the original comes into its own as the track progresses, finally finishing with colourful flourishes that evoke the essence of the original, and the era it was made in.
