Premiere: Formally Unknown – Superluminal

Prague-based record label Harmless Youth prepare to release their fourth release with ‘Autonomous Zone‘, a three-track extended plater from St Petersburg duo Formally Unknown, adding further quality to the inspiring imprint.

The Russian duo’s discography has seen them release on regular favourites including Private Persons and Dusky’s 17 Steps label, showing a breadth of style and appeal from heavyweight techno to lighter strains.

For the Czech label in question, however, Formally Unknown have prepared a trio of breaks-heavy gems with more than a nod to the deep bassline of UK bass music. ‘Superluminal‘ captures the essence of the EP: full, chest-moving bass is married with a shattered stack of breaks that flutter from side to side. Sharpened snares and hi hats complete the look, generating an inescapable groove. Perfect for the headphones, perfect for the club, this track’s a winner whichever way you look at it.

‘Autonomous Zone’ is scheduled for release 22 January via Harmless Youth. Order a copy from Bandcamp.
