Premiere: Dave Aju – X17 (Main Mix)

LA-based producer Dave Aju has always been surrounded by music. Raised by his father, an early peer of Pharaoh Sanders, he went on to become a B-boy and MC in the local hip hop scene before finding his footing in the leftfield recesses of electronic dance music.

The artist first used the pseudonym Dave Aju In the early 2000’s for a techno night in San Francisco. The heyday of minimal, it was around this time he began releasing his first records, becoming a regular on French record label Circus Company.

Fast forward to 2021 and the producer is staying busy: preparing his fourth album and minting his new imprint. A stripped-back collection of techno/electro heaters, the first dispatch on Elbow Grease comes from the man himself. Our pick from the release is ‘X17 (Main Mix)’, a bouncy electro rhythm steeped in Detroit influences.

‘X17’ is scheduled for release 5 November via Elbow Grease. Order a copy from Bandcamp.
