100% Silk certainly know how to stay busy, pumping out releases from both fresh faces and underground favourites with real regularity. Their next drop is a double whammy – fresh music from both Los Angeles’ Etari and Denver’s Dubharp arriving this Friday.
Dubharp is Luke Thinnes, who launched the project in 2018 “as a cathartic experiment in fusing contradictory energies”. Thinnes, who also works under the name French Kettle Station, has taken an improvisational approach across eight tracks on ‘Spiral Heights’, which are far from jam session throwaways.
‘Dancing Wish’ has a hearty dose of eighties nostalgia and is one of the standouts here. The track is laden with lively synths and vaporous tones that demonstrate Thinne’s ear for intriguing melodies. It feels historically conscious without being pastiche – a fine line to walk, but Thinnes pulls it off.
