London based label Ascension announces the 8th release on their imprint with a first contribution from producer Josh Padgett, Masochist in Belgrade. The single features a remix from head of label George NB, who reworks the trippy, textural original into something a little softer and moodier on his ‘After Hours Mix’.
The track opens with a wash of warm pads that conjure up that humid darkness of late summer nights, offset by glitchy little tweaks of synth. A simple, steady kick sets the tempo, before it’s joined by a run of skittering hats, ringing synths and rascally little bass stabs, the main bass line quietly undercutting everything to lend another blanket of warmth to the track.
Throw in a break that introduces some warpy electro sounds, the return of the kick ushered in by more bass stabs and echoing claps, and the result is a pleasantly evolving small hours tune that evolves satisfyingly over just five and a half minutes of play time.
