Laura BCR debuts on Dutch label SoHaSo with an EP of ambient techno abstractions. After keeping busy with her own On Board Music label, she is switching focus to her own productions. ‘Initial’ houses four original tracks and a collaboration with Danza Nativa owner, Forest On Stasys, each focusing on a distinct strain of dubwise ambient or aqueous, introspective techno.
‘They Never Came Back’ is our pick and follows a style that Laura has been exploring in recent years, translating the diverse vibes of her Rinse Radio shows and DJ sets into the studio. Some gratitude is paid to dub techno’s finest with chunks of low-end reverb and oscillating stabs, shackled by a classy use of delay.
The filtered percussions and gentle sweeping rhythm is the secret sauce and amplifies that submerged spacious feeling and does its best to compete with the earthy rhythmical tendencies of tribal techno’s frontrunners such as natural.electronic/system, Retina.it and Varuna.
Her EP for SoHaSo is her most substantial collections of tracks, allowing us to glimpse into the Berlin-based Française, and connecting the dots between her wide-ranging taste within the space of hypnotic body music.
‘Initial’ is scheduled for release 21 June 21 via SoHaSo. Order a copy from Bandcamp.
