Chilean producer Massiande‘s catalogue is growing at a considered rate, choosing quality over output. Debuting back in 2013 on one Robert Dewek’s unrelenting release powerhouses Housewax, his follow up came in 2015 on Aroy Dee’s M>O>S. Continuing a discerning approach to imprints, he now makes a showing on London record shop Phonica‘s label offshoot Phonica White. Listening to the accomplished four tracker ‘Freedom’, you can see what flagged the artist to the attention of Aroy Dee previously. It cuts a path through bumping rough edged house with an air of dewiness.
With no weak links, it was a team collaboration when deciding on a track to run with when offered for premiere. We decided to settle upon B1 cut ‘Straight‘ in the end. There is an air of Todd Terry’s classic 808 beat programming from back in the day, the synth work early in the track has an air of early Sakamoto to it, while the emotive latter stretch really hits upon the same sort of mood that the near un-Googleable ##### – ##### hit upon a few years ago to awesome effect.
Freedom is released via Phonica White, order a copy from the shop.
