Premiere: Morcheeba – Find Another Way (Djrum Remix)

With each edition of the much talked-about Record Store Day comes its lot of more or less exciting one-off issues and future Discogs’able treasures, and this year’s batch of reworks of Morcheeba 2018-released album, ‘Blaze Away‘ definitely belongs to the latter. Featuring the likes of in-vogue remixers Throwing Snow, Falty DL, Kelpe, Yimino, Brecon and serial genre-bender Djrum, it’s a whole new light that’s being cast on the highly popular trip-hop act’s music.

Streaming through our channels today, Felix Manuel’s equally pensive and dynamic take on ‘Find Another Way‘ floats in a zone of its own – cruising halfway deep reggaean vibrations, atmospheric pop terrains and purebred wobbly bass-fuelled dubstep in sheer UK tradition. Opening Skye Edwards’ vocals to a vast horizon of electronic potentialities, the track successfully dips toes in ocean-wide tapestries of seemingly endless reverbs, rhythmic crossovers and mirroring textural plays.

Going further into the making of the track and the sound he was looking to achieve, Djrum explains: “I love the vocals in the original and was keen to take the track in a darker direction. For some years now I’ve been playing with the idea of ambient gabber, and this seemed like a good time to go that way. There’s also a strong dub-techno influence in the track.” As expected from Djrum this one’s a solid shot-caller and, if you’re lucky enough to put your paws on a copy, there’s no doubt that ‘Blazed Away Remixes‘ 12″ should end up in your bag right away. Killer stuff.

Blazed Away Remixes is a special Record Store Day 2019 item. It will be available to purchase from the Rough Trade stores from 8am 13th April.
