Operating as Nico, Nicolas Guerrero has begun to establish himself as a truly innovative producer. First appearing on the ‘Patina Echoes’ compilation from Timedance, he’s since released a track with Mother’s Finest and gone on mint his own label, Akita Club.
Following this success of ‘Six Rooms’ on his own imprint, Nico is back with another set of complex rhythmic explorations, equally satisfying for body and mind. The release lands on Singapore’s Midnight Shift, who’ve recently dispatched transmissions from Intergalactic Gary and Kirk Degiorgio’s Templefeld alias.
Our pick from the EP is ‘Elements’, a hypnotising, polyrhythmic excursion that pairs organic percussion with unrelenting bass. Masquerading as a drum lesson, the track also deploys breaks and eerie melodies that, combined, result in one of Nico’s most captivating tracks to date.
‘The Driving Rain’ is out 9 April via Midnight Shift. Order a copy from Bandcamp.
