London based trio OWANJ prepare to self-release their debut album ‘AZUM‘ later this month with the single release of ‘AMANACER‘.
Although not tied to a record label, the quality of musicianship throughout the album is clear as day, suggesting that perhaps the decision to release under their own steam comes through confidence in their work, or in faith of the current model of independence with releasing music, rather than a lack of interest from a higher body.
Very aptly, tracks from the release have been played on the likes of NTS and Radio 6 Music, indicative of the calibre therein. The album progresses serenely through tasteful steel pan introductions, gentle guitar plucking, and husky vocals, all the way through to the tentative application of electronic instruments.
‘AMANACER‘ fits between many categories of music. Loop-driven and filled with a sepia ambience, the track meanders through myriad scenes all evocative of sun stricken coastal scenes. Clipped angelic vocals glint of deep, augmented drums that push the track forward with decisiveness. If November has started getting to you, take a sip of this drink and remember the summer.
‘AZUM’ is released 22 November. Order a copy from Bandcamp.
