Hailing from the ever-effervescing Bordeaux, Nice Guys is popular French music blog Délicieuse Musique’s antenna for all things cucumber-fresh and ethereal, i.e. everything spanning from hypnagogic surf music to lo-fi dream pop basically.
Although seemingly restrictive to, say Californian lo-fi indie pop at first, this is the kind of music range that reveals a lot more nuanced than its easy post Beach Boys-esque appeal may first sound like limiting it to – as confirmed by their rich and highly recommended, hot-off-the-press debut VA, ‘Nice Guys Compilation Vol.1‘ – a most ideal companion for hours of shameless sun-basking and woozy afters.
Enrolled to add his addictively vibey spin to Ralph TV‘s oh-so-groovy ‘Making Movements‘, NYC house producer Baltra steps up with a floor-magnetic revamp, sure up to his consistently above-average remixing standards. Take some rousing liquid disco tropes, sprinkle with flights of tie-dye synths, add a healthy dose of Chicagoan step, chopped-up / glitched-out vox samples and one helluva funky bass to get the booties shaking, mix vigorously and you’re there. Tight unit!
Making Movements (Baltra Remix) is released via Nice Guys on 2nd August, order a copy here.
