Prolific Swedish duo SHXCXCHCXSH are back with their sixth album. A mixture of avant-garde techno rhythms and hair raising sonic experimentation, ‘Kongestion’ is their fourth full-length for Shifted’s Avian imprint.
The release follows 2018’s ‘SHULULULU‘, which saw the pair experimenting with drunken and disorientating arrangements. Compared to that project, much of ‘Kongestion’ dials up the rave energy. However, the best parts of the LP are merely a nod in this direction.
Falling within the latter category, our pick is ‘Stio’. While the track is not completely beatless, this is techno that’s been reduced to a skeletal selection of elements. The thud of a kick in the second half lends it some extra propulsive capability, but it’s the twilight zone synths that stand out on this eerie number.
