As a part of the Hypercolour office, Ste Roberts has spent significant time soaking up different strains of dance music. When he’s not busy helping run the prolific label, you might find him working on his own music. Often, his productions are a distillation of the darker side of things and are aimed squarely at the floor.
Ste Robert’s most recent EP arrived via the long-running UK label just last week and, keeping the momentum going, his next lands imminently, delivered via his very own STE imprint. The latest drop in the series includes agile electro and the kind of stripped-back techno that’s best suited to the darkest hours.
Closing the release is ‘Jumping To The Beat Of Your Shadow’. Compared to the raucous energy of some of the other tracks here, this one’s more contemplative. While some strains of electro can come across as emotionally austere, there’s certainly soul embedded within the circuitry here.
